City as Classroom
Urban Academy students use New York City in many ways – both as part of work in various classes (Politics and Government, Trigonometry, Criticism, Science Research, Photo Documentary and others) and as the location for Community Service sites.
All Urban Academy students spend half a day a week working in art galleries, museums, not-for-profit agencies, schools, offices, senior citizens centers, and hospitals to fulfill a community service requirement. Finally, students make extensive use of the city during the twice a year all-school-project – a two week intensive study resolving around a question such as:
What is the Impact of Architecture on People’s Lives? What Makes a Good Museum? Is Technology Progress?
